San Antonio artist Gary Sweeney has shown nationally and internationally, and his large-scale public art installations are featured in parks and airports in Denver, Charlotte, Memphis, Los Angeles and San Antonio.  

Over the last twenty years, Gary has sent over 20,000 humorous, hand-written postcards to an extensive list of his friends. These postcards contain collages of unusual news stories followed by biting commentary and hilarious and insulting remarks tailored to each recipient.  

Recently the family of one such recipient discovered a box containing over 600 of Gary’s postcards, articles and Christmas cards dating back to the 1970's.  Gary began scanning these and other postcards from selected recipients and has now gathered highlights from these collections into this album-style book.  

Gary Sweeney's art is a completely contemporary reminder of our recent past.  The postcards featured in Post-Obsessive represent an almost stubborn throwback to days of hand-written notes sent through the U.S. Postal Service.
